The second stage of the Competence Center Enterprise Knowledge Medium started on May 1st, 1998. Since then, we have focused our knowledge management endeavours on two main applications, namely the improvement of knowledge-intensive processes, such as product development, and the management of knowledge in distributed project work. In both application areas, processes and projects, we are emphasizing the role of an enterprise knowledge medium. In doing so we examine the applications, functionalities and environment of a medium (typically an Intranet) that can serve as a knowledge management platform for communities.
